EDUCAUSE (http://www.educause.edu), a highly creative, entrepreneurial, national nonprofit association whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology, seeks a Director of Marketing. The Director of Marketing will advance the organization’s marketing strategies and tactics while fostering relationships with internal stakeholders and champion the member experience as well as the EDUCAUSE brand. Responsibilities: 1. Lead the marketing team a. Lead and manage a marketing team of five Marketing Managers, five Marketing Coordinators, and a Design and Production Specialist. Inspire a collegial and collaborative spirit among team members and stakeholders. b. Improve team decision-making yet recommend and implement action when consensus is not reached. Set and achieve reasonable individual and programmatic stretch-goals. c. Improve mentoring of team members. For example: i. Develop overall association marketing plan and assist with other marketing plans/strategies/tactics. ii. Help the team improve knowledge and use of marketing best practices, especially for analytics, email, website and social media. iii. Effectively model “leading from where you are,” accountability, positive conflict resolution, and active listening. iv. Recognize strengths, build skills, and actively advance professional development for marketing staff. d. Manage audience segments and responsibilities across the team to create a balance of workload and meet the marketing needs and goals of the association. e. Act at the catalyst/leader of an environment that progresses communication within the team and throughout the organization. f. Cultivate an environment where the benefits and role of marketing is understood and stakeholders understand how and when to involve marketing early on in the product development process. 2. Champion the brand a. Create an overarching marketing and brand strategy that supports and advances the association’s strategic priorities. b. Ensure strong, consistent communication across all channels and segments of EDUCAUSE’s desired image and position(s) within the higher education community. c. Provide leadership when resources are scarce compared to needs. d. Work with the marketing team and stakeholders to guide use and evolution of brand, voice, and website guidelines to maintain consistency and freshness. 3. Provide strategic marketing leadership a. Lead overarching marketing team initiatives such as website improvements, social media presence, and marketing analytics dashboards. b. Act as the marketing lead for overarching association initiatives and work directly with executive leaders on the development of framework, messaging, and broad implementation. c. Develop valued partnerships between the marketing team and other departments, key stakeholders, and executive leaders to champion the work of the marketing team and support improvements to the member experience. 4. Improve effectiveness/efficiency of marketing a. Develop shared/standardized processes or templates to be used across marketing segments such as marketing plans, analytics, web pages, or list requests. b. Recognize achievements coming from the marketing segment teams and ensure integration of those activities throughout the marketing department as a whole. c. Employ marketing best practices across audience segments and delivery channels. d. Improve knowledge-based decision-making. For example: i. Measure the effectiveness of executed marketing strategies, tests, and tactics. Introduce strategies and best practices to improve the use of analytics in evaluating email and web marketing practices. ii. Develop and manage consistent processes to gather member/customer input for EDUCAUSE’s key programs and services to determine where improvements to the member experience should be made. 5. Prioritize a. Help the marketing team manage multiple organizational priorities. Prioritize where marketing efforts are best utilized and where additional resources would be most beneficial. b. Develop clear, concise team-wide goals. c. Manage goals in the face of a changing environment. 6. Budget a. Create and manage the annual marketing budget with input from marketing managers. b. Provide guidance to marketing managers on budget expectations, needs, and goals for their segments. Look for opportunities to minimize work and maximize returns. c. Meet or exceed goals outlined for the marketing department. Qualifications (education, knowledge, skills, abilities):
