Anchor Center for Blind Children Job Description JOB TITLE: Occupational Therapist DATE: May 2013 REPORTS TO: Program Team LeaderMax 16 hrs per week Tues, Thurs, Friday Purpose of Position The Occupational Therapist works as a member of the transdisciplinary team to meet the developmental and educational goals of Preschoolers served by Anchor Center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities •Provide evaluations in a transdisciplinary team setting, covering the areas of fine motor function, including prehension and manipulation, self help and reactivity to sensory input. •Provide group therapy activities to improve each child’s functional hand, fine motor and self help skills. •Assist parents in understanding their children’s sensory systems. •Provide suggestions for functional age appropriate sensory-motor activities to do at home. •Consult with itinerant staff and provide appropriate home visits as necessary for children who cannot attend center-based programs. •HIPAA compliant. Other Duties and Responsibilities •Ability to mentor a variety of students. •Communicate with Speech/Language Pathologist to provide input concerning oral-motor and feeding/eating. •Attend scheduled staff and team meetings. •Participate in program development. •Attend fundraising events when desired and able •Meet at least annually with the team to discuss concerns, performance, enhance communication and to set goals and review past activities. Qualifications Education & Experience •Degree in Occupational Therapy and appropriate certificates of Registration in Colorado for practice. •A minimum of five years experience in pediatric therapy, birth to three. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities •Demonstrated professional expertise with children who are multiply involved •Demonstrated professional expertise with children who have sensory processing and/or feeding issues and willing to be trained in visual impairments. •Ability to participate as an integral member of a team •Ability to meet deadlines and write clear comprehensive reports. Working Environment •Educational/classroom environment including children with limited or no vision and frequent parent/family visits Physical Activities •Able to physically lift up to 40 pounds •Able to participate in floor time and maneuver equipment/materials (with assistance if necessary for safety purposes) for use in programming. |
