The primary purpose of this position is to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential and current major donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Major gifts officers strategically manage all fundraising activities for donors in an assigned portfolio. Major gifts officers are part of the American Indian College Funds (the College Fund) Resource Development team and are critical in helping the organization effectively meet revenue goals that support strategic initiatives and business goals.
This position must share the College Funds core values of respect, reciprocity, reasoning, relationships, and responsibility, which are all important values held by a College Fund team member.This position will work closely within Resource Development and across department lines to coordinate efforts and achieve team and organization objectives. In addition, reasoning and responsibility are critical to successfully executing the duties of this role.
Essential Job Functions
1.Strategically manages all fundraising activities for donors in an assigned fundraising portfolio to meet individual and organizational goals.
a. Develops strategic and ongoing action plans for every donor in portfolio
b. Tracks the status of donors and modifies stewardship/cultivation plan as needed
c. Enters all donor information/actions into donor database
d. Consistently monitors status of fundraising goals and performance metrics
e. Consistently meets or exceeds individual fundraising goals
f. Makes data-driven decisions in management of portfolio with a focus on meeting individual fundraising goals, organization business and strategic objectives, and return on investment
2. Develops donation-focused relationships with current and prospective donors
a. Meets with prospective and current major donors in region consistently throughout fiscal year
b. Engages in creative and frequent solicitations to donors in portfolio
c. Appropriately follows up with every donor based on results of active correspondence
d. Provides information through diverse and strategic touch points
e. Finalizes all reporting documents and manages the presentation of gift reports to donors
f. Strengthens/develops relationships with regional stakeholders
3. Develops innovative solutions and ideas to optimize fundraising potential
a. Consistently creates new avenues for donor relationship and solicitation
b. Shares innovative ideas with resource development team members
c. Fully utilizes available tools and resources to qualify, identify, and cultivate prospective major donors as well as continually evaluate the potential of current major donors.
4. Consistently enters all activities related to donors into donor database
a.Records all activities related to new, current and prospective donors in database
b. Adheres to all RD guidelines for appropriate data entry
5. Other duties as assigned.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work well within a diverse team and across departments
Flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
Experience with managing a fundraising portfolio, organizing and meeting deadlines with responsibility for financial goals
Demonstrated success in timely closing major gifts ranging from $10,000-$500,000 from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Knowledge of donor relational database software
Knowledge of and/or interest in learning about American Indian education
Familiarity with national philanthropic sector and understanding of concepts and trends within philanthropy
3-5 years of major gift fundraising experience or 7+ years of related experience in the areas of fundraising, sales, or relationship management
