Making Sense of the Economic Recovery Act
for Nonprofits

Colorado's Nonprofit Headquarters for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Funding the Arts

  • Organizations must be already receiving funding from NEA/CCA to qualify for new funding. New nonprofits can designate Fiscal Agents.
  • Organizations are encouraged to have documented conversations with their Boards what they intend to do if revenues do not meet expenses.
  • Organizations are urged to plan for trimming costs not related to salary.
  • Cannot use NEA funding to hire Fund Raisers.
  • Visit www.coloarts.org for CCA funding opportunity; matching funding can be (half cash) and (half in-kind). Also visit www.artsincrisis.org.
  • National funding does not require matching of funds.
  • Arts programs are urged to connect their programs to sustainable job development.
