This position is responsible for providing PERAChoice Program, 401(k) and 457 Plan educational and compliance information to members, retirees and employers. Ensures member eligibility requirements are met and acts as a liaison between PERA and the Plan custodian. Analyzes and comprehends complex compliance issues and effectively communicates results.

If you are independent and capable of working in a team environment, and have the ability to take complex financial concepts and explain them in easily understood terms, this is a great fit.

Areas of Responsibility


  • Communicates program information with members, employers, and plan's record keeper in writing, verbally over the phone, in one-on-one appointments and group meetings, both in-office and out-of-office
  • Utilizes analytical reasoning skills and proactive research methods to verify plan choice elections, eligibility, and accuracy of data/system coding according to PERA statutory rules and plan design
  • Reviews submitted employer demographic information via systems applications daily
  • Utilizes active listening techniques to respond effectively to inquiries and resolve issues
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal statutes and rules governing PERA
  • Provide effective and timely customer service
  • Collaborates with staff and management in developing recommendations to resolve complex issues
  • Ensures employer compliance with statutory and PERA rules provisions governing the Plans
  • Ensures employer reported issues with PERAPlus 401(k) and 457 Plans or the PERAChoice Program are addressed appropriately
  • Serves as an educational resource for members and retirees on plan structure and design
  • Organizes and tracks participant and employer issues over time
  • Responsible for data entry and information retrieval
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of benefits administration
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills with knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and/or confidential information and situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with an aptitude for math
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and work successfully both independently and within a team-focused environment
  • Aptitude for consistent routine and repetitive tasks
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to travel overnight on a limited basis


  • Standard office environment with regular computer and telephone use
  • Occasional lifting, moving, or carrying materials and equipment weighing in excess of 20 pounds 
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to three years of benefits administration
