Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, this position supports the mission of the organization by building community partnerships, facilitating community-wide health and safety initiatives, engaging in advocacy, and administering safe driving prevention work, as defined in the Communities That Care (CTC), Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) partnership scopes. 

The primary role of a Community Mobilizer is to rally a variety of constituents around environmental change in Eagle County. Environmental change is long-term, systemic shifts in norms, policies, and behaviors across the entire population of the county. This includes people who are already motivated for change and also those who may need information and education that substantiates the need for change. A Community Mobilizer will have the skills necessary to facilitate a wide range of conversations, while supporting systemic changes at the core of each. Mountain Youth is invested in creating sustainable environmental changes that reduce youth access to and use of substances, promote positive health behaviors, address community norms and risk factors, enhance protective factors, elevate diverse community voices, and create equitable systems of support for youth and families.

Areas of Responsibility

Community Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Sustain communication to and from the community strategy teams and Mountain Youth team.
  • Lead steering committee, strategy implementation team, and stakeholder engagement and capacity building activities, in order to implement the overall action plan and environmental strategies.
  • Coordinate stakeholder and subcommittee meetings, and attend risk & protective factor work group meetings.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with individuals who serve on or are impacted by project strategies.
  • Coordinate and/or attend community events that fulfill strategy objectives.
  • Contribute information for newsletters, press releases, and items to be published in social media.

Project Leadership

  • Collaborate regularly with the Director of Community Engagement.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies and oversee delivery of those strategies with all partners.
  • Play a role in moving the community and partners through the action plans, strategic plans, and the CTC process.
  • Support policy assessment and development opportunities as they relate to preventing youth access to and use of substances, impaired driving prevention, distracted driving prevention and/or compliance with Graduated Drivers License (GDL) laws.
  • Coordinate environmental change strategies that include policy assessment and development, retailer training and practices, transportation strategies, and enforcement strategies in partnership with law enforcement.

Project Administration

  • Participate in monthly funder calls, Communities that Care (CTC) coaching calls, Colorado Young Drivers Alliance calls, and other community, regional, or statewide committees as appropriate.
  • Participate in monthly Eagle County Prevention Committee Meetings and support safe driving efforts and events
  • Attend and support youth club meetings and alternative activity events.
  • Use internal and funder required tracking systems to maintain a record of work completed. Support reporting processes, inform grant documents, and ensure completion of workplan activities.
  • Assist with overall data collection and assessment activities. Ensure completion of program/event evaluations.
  • Assist with financial management, budget development and tracking of expenses.
  • Attend trainings, grantee meetings, and conferences as needed.
  • Oversee contractors and hourly positions necessary for strategy implementation.

General Office

  • Serve as a respected resource for collecting, understanding and sharing youth issues and opportunities.
  • Ensure our partners and target audience are representative of our diverse community.
  • Leverage opportunities to develop impactful partnerships.
  • Ensure youth are recognized as valued partners in our work and in the community.
  • Maintain positive staff and board relations.
  • Participate in Mountain Youth team meetings.
  • Perform general office duties and support with Mountain Youth projects as needed.
  • Support in fundraising efforts and sustainability strategies to maintain the work of the overall organization.
  • Support other programs and efforts as needed and as available.
  • Participate in regular one-on-one and team check-in meetings to align different efforts and resources across the organization.
  • Be a champion for youth and advocate for policies, practices, and efforts that support their overall healthy development.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Interest in and commitment to positive youth, family and community development, as well as overall community health and safety.
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish language speaking and bicultural preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit organizations, community building, youth development, and health & safety strategies preferred, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to thrive independently as part of a dynamic team in a growing organization
  • High level of professionalism and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative and creative; ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing needs, resources and requirements
  • Strong public speaking skills and comfort in community settings with diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills, addressing diverse viewpoints and bringing groups to consensus
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft office programs and social media
  • Willingness to commit to a flexible schedule, including occasional weeknight and weekend commitments as needed
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Eagle River Valley for meetings, programs, and events
Compensation/Benefits
Compensation: 

This is a .8FTE (approximately 32 hours per week) salaried position, with a possibility of increasing to full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) in the future. The salary range is $36,000-$42,000, and will be commensurate with experience.
