The purpose of the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is to promote the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of Housing Choice Voucher assistance with public and private resources that enable families participating under the program to increase earned income and financial literacy, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance, and make progress toward economic independence and self-sufficiency. The FSS Coordinator will recruit residents and assist to develop and attain the motivation, goals, and skills necessary for self-sufficiency through active case management, attaining employment, referrals to post high school career/skills training, self-enhancement activities, job counseling, and position retention. This includes identifying, recruiting, and engaging community partners in activities that promote this goal.

This position is grant funded for reminder of 2018, with the goal of renewing the grant at the end of the year. Continued employment at the end year is dependent on funding. 

Innovative Housing Concepts - Who we are:

The Englewood Housing Authority was established in 1972 by resolution of the Englewood City Council. It is governed by a five-member board appointed by the Mayor to serve five-year terms. The Authority was designed with the powers to develop, manage and maintain dwelling units for the occupancy and benefit of low to moderate income persons residing or intending to reside in the City of Englewood. In 2018, Englewood Housing Authority changed its name to Innovative Housing Concepts.

The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They establish a flexible, functional base from which the employee operates.  It may also be modified with additions, deletions or changes required to obtain organizational goals and objectives.

  • Using a variety of outreach methods, identifies, recruits, and engages eligible Housing Choice Voucher tenants to participate in the FSS program.
  • Work with program participants to develop individual plans, focusing on academic, personal, social, and employment goals. Ensure that an Individual Training and Services Plan is prepared for the head of the FSS family and each adult member of the FSS family who elects to participate in the FSS program.
  • Ensure that the services included in the participants' contracts of participation are provided on a regular, ongoing and satisfactory basis, and monitor the progress of participants. Modify plans as appropriate to promote success in reaching self-sufficiency within the 5 year program period.
  • With the assistance of the Financial Services Manager, establish and monitor FSS escrow accounts for eligible families. Coordinate to maintain participant escrow account and authorize account withdrawals within plan guidelines.
  • Coordinate with relevant community partners to broker existing resources and develop new tools to encourage positive choices, life skills, and employment.
  • Participate as a member of relevant community networks and committees to access services, ensure program success, and avoid program duplication.
  • Facilitate /schedule financial literacy classes to help clients understand the importance of budgeting, credit recovery and debt-reduction.
  • Manage monthly participation documentation from participants and record data in services database. Maintain all reporting requirements set by funders and/or regulatory agencies. Aggregate data to document services provided and outcomes achieved.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Housing Choice Voucher team.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client records and personal information.
  • BA/BS in human services or related field
  • 4+ years’ experience working in community service related field
