About our Human Resources Manager Role


Street Business School seeks a part-time Human Resource Manager to join our dynamic team and provide support to our employees, team of Directors as well as the COO and CEO. This position is an opportunity for a highly organized, self-motivated professional with HR experience, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a passion for HR work. We are looking for candidates with demonstrated success, enthusiasm for our mission, and a dedication to representing the needs of the organization.

Areas of Responsibility

Here's what the job looks like:

Talent Strategy and Recruitment

  • Partner with the Leadership Team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning
  • Collaborate with managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings and develop job postings that reflect the responsibilities of the positions, qualifications required, and approaches that will attract a robust pool of diverse qualified candidates
  • Manage the talent acquisition process including posting jobs, developing a pipeline of candidates, assessing applications, conducting first round interviews, providing input to hiring decisions, and conducting background and reference checks for final candidates
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including conducting exit interviews


Benefits and Salary Administration

  • Process all new hire paperwork and entry in HR systems
  • Work with Business Team to administer all payroll related data including salary changes, withholding information, and timekeeping data
  • Create and implement new digital systems for managing HR processes
  • Work with Business Team to assess and make recommendations for annual benefits enrollment
  • Maintain personnel files
  • Track employee eligibility for benefits including anniversary and vacation accrual benefits
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent


Compliance and Policy Interpretation and Implementation

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; manage and update employee handbook and interpret policy as questions arise
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Recommend policy updates and protocols as needed given changes to the work environment (e.g. pandemic response)
  • Serve as the point person for staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations
  • Oversee any employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations


Build Talent and Capability

  • Coach managers and employees on people related challenges and opportunities
  • Provide input and counsel to leadership on organizational or staffing changes
  • Manage annual and new hire performance review processes

Work with Uganda HR team on global projects as needed

Other duties as required and as we dream them up together

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience across a range of HR activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Experience effectively telling an organization’s story to source, hire, and retain a diverse range of candidates
  • Experience coaching and influencing leaders and employees, including effectively delivering hard messages with compassion, clarity, and confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • A great sense of humor and a desire to have fun
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
  • Flexibility
  • Proficiency with MS Office and cloud-based systems


This is a part-time position estimated at 10-12 hours a week with some flexibility in work schedule. Salary is $20/hour depending on experience. Benefits are great including participation in a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, sick time, and holidays, including an organization-wide holiday closure.
