Job Description: 

The Ray of Hope Cancer Foundation provides unrestricted support to cancer patients struggling to meet basic daily needs – a roof over their heads, food on the table, and heat in the winter. We are the only organization in Colorado that gives unrestricted grants directly to needy cancer patients.

The Ray of Hope Cancer Foundation was established in 2002 by oncologist Dr. David Schrier in memory of his patient, Raymond Wentz. To date, we have given over $1 Million in emergency financial assistance to nearly 5000 cancer patients in every corner of Colorado. The Foundation works closely with oncology professionals, relying on their expertise to determine a patient’s eligibility for a grant. Since 2002, over a hundred social workers and scores of medical offices throughout Colorado have referred cancer patients in need to the Foundation.

Job Summary:
• Manage the Foundation’s grant program, working closely with the Board and Grants Committee on a monthly basis to ensure a timely, ethical, and productive grant process
• Serve as a resource for applicants and referring professionals
• Manage partnerships with collaborative organizations, sharing resources and working together to improve program outcomes
• Work closely with the Executive Director to implement the organization’s strategic direction
• Represent the Foundation in the cancer support community

Areas of Responsibility

Grant Program Management:
• Communicating with applicants and referring medical professionals
• Conducting initial administrative review of applications and eligibility documents
• Maintaining applicant database
• Facilitating the grants review process at monthly Grants Committee meeting
• Processing awards and denied applications in a timely manner
• Delivering monthly award list to accountant, ensuring secure receipt of checks
• Generating award and denial letters, mailing checks and letters within 7 days
• Ensuring monthly accounting balance between grantee database and Quickbooks
• Maintaining secure storage of applications and secure shredding after 4 months
• Providing information regarding current and historic grants in response to requests from staff, board and assigned external inquiries
• Attending professional meetings and conferences to stay well-informed and build the Foundation’s connections with the community
• Cultivating relationships with partnering organizations.
• Collecting grantee stories and interviews
• Updating grant application and applicant information on web site
• Managing program evaluation processes, and implementing changes as needed in response to evaluation results.
• Working with Grants Committee Chair to recruit volunteer Committee Members as needed

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Versatile with Word, Excel, Access, QuickBooks and WordPress, or like programs where knowledge can be easily transferred.
  • Conversational Spanish – enough to get contact info and communicate referral to Spanish-speaking social worker.
  • Ideal background: Social work and/or oncology experience and/or education
  • Qualities: Independent Detail-oriented Organized Confidential Compassionate
