Based on the growing trend in street outreach programs like the Burlington, Vermont model; Outreach Fort Collins- a project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center- is a collaborative community program seeking to hire a Street Outreach Worker.
Outreach Fort Collins’ mission is to maintain downtown Fort Collins as a safe and welcoming place for all community members while connecting our community’s most vulnerable to the services and supportive networks they need. Vulnerable populations may include, but are not limited to: individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, have been dual-diagnosed, and/or have unmet social service needs.
Outreach Fort Collins is a small, professionally staffed, on-the-street team working in downtown Fort Collins. The Street Outreach Worker team will:
• Engage and build relationships with community members, service providers, businesses, city services and first responders;
• Provide community referrals for those who need services- including coordination, tracking, case planning and follow through
• De-escalate disruptive behaviors and resolve on-the-street conflicts; and
• Respond to non-emergency calls and concerns to ensure appropriate use of emergency responder time and efforts.
Outreach Fort Collins works with all community stakeholders to identify options to reach obtainable goals for individuals and our community.
BA or BS degree in human services field required. Three or more years of equivalent experience may be substituted for educational requirement. Exceptional candidates will have: previous street outreach experience; at least three years of work experience with vulnerable populations especially those who are experiencing homelessness, substance abuse and/or mental health issues; superior verbal communication and relationship management skills including a thorough knowledge of conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques; and the ability to engage and connect effectively and proactively with diverse audiences ranging from vulnerable populations, business owners and employees, current and potential program funders, government entities, and first responders. This is a full time, salaried position ($32k) plus benefits.
Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to lift up to 40 pounds, pass a background check and drug screens. This position will be required to work year-round and outdoors for a majority of their daily time.
