The mission of Emily Griffith Foundation (EGF) is to provide financial support to Emily Griffith Technical College (EGTC) in the areas of student scholarships, capital improvements, innovative projects, instructional equipment and other needs that cannot be funded by the school’s regular financial sources – all of which makes our job sound remarkably dry and boring.
In reality, EGF helps keep open the doors of opportunity for nearly 7,500 students each year who overcome great odds to complete their education and enter and strengthen the American middle class.
In 2014, the Foundation provided more than $1.2 million in scholarships to students like Radele, a single mother and a dental assisting student. Radele’s scholarship allowed her to attend school full time by offsetting the cost of child care and transportation. She will graduate from her program debt free in just a few months and have the means to support herself and her family in her new career.
New Initiative Gong Beyond Tuition Support
While tuition support is essential, EGTC students often have life circumstances affecting attendance and completion of programs. In early 2014, EGF launched a new initiative – the 360 Degree program – supporting beyond tuition dollars our most vulnerable student populations. Students can access these funds to cover costs like childcare, transportation, housing, food and medical expenses. Our 11 most recent 360 Degree Fund recipients all completed their programs and averaged a 3.2 GPA.
One-hundred percent retention is an extraordinary statistic for a program supporting students facing many barriers to completion; we are proud of their accomplishments and the role the Foundation plays in making it possible.
Emily Griffith Technical College has been Colorado’s most effective economic engine for 100 years and Emily Griffith Foundation looks forward to another 100 years of making the education of all who wish to learn a reality.
