Legislator of the Year Award
The Legislator of the Year Award recognizes a legislator who has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to the goals and priorities of Colorado's nonprofits during the previous legislative session as identified by Colorado Nonprofit Association's Public Policy Committee.
Representative Dianne Primavera
Representative Dianne Primavera has been working in the field of disability employment and health care for more than 40 years. She is serving her second term for House District 33 and is a member of the Health and Human Services Committee, Transportation & Energy Committee, and was appointed to Legislative Audit Committee and elected vice chair.
During the 2009 legislative session, she sponsored bills to provide funding for autism treatment through health benefit plans; to ensure that health benefit plans support Colorado’s early intervention program serving children with significant delays in development; to expand funding for those with breast or cervical cancer who are under-insured or uninsured; and to increase funding for the Colorado Traumatic Brain injury Fund. A four-time cancer survivor, Rep. Primavera’s dedication to the health and well-being of Colorado has continued to advance the goals and work of Colorado’s nonprofits.
Rep. Primavera has a long history of community service and volunteer work. She served on the 17th Judicial District Crime Victim’s Compensation Board. The Broomfield City Council and Mayor appointed her to two terms on the Broomfield County Health and Human Services Advisory Board. She has been an active Stephen Minister with the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and has served as her class representative for Regis College, raising thousands of dollars in scholarships for students who could not afford to attend Regis without financial aid.
