Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center (RMvlc) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pro bono legal service agency. RMvlc provides free legal representation for victims of violent crime in criminal cases aiding with the enforcement of both Colorado and Federal Crime Victim’s Rights Acts. We operate as independent legal counsel charged to protect the legal rights and best interests of the victim through a broad-based approach grounded in litigation, advocacy and extensive knowledge of the judicial system.
THE POSITION
The Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center (RMvlc) is the organization’s chief executive with overall responsibility for RMvlc’s management and operation, including 1) management of the organization and its fiscal affairs, 2) maintenance of funding levels to meet program needs, 3) active fundraising to maintain and expand program capacity, 4) recruitment and retention of board members, and 5) collaboration with the broader community in Denver and throughout the state of Colorado, including other legal and social service providers, clients, political and civic leaders and community groups. The Executive Director is appointed by and reports to the Board of Directors.
The primary duties of the Executive Director consist of the following:
Organizational Management
- Directs the overall operations of the program in compliance with relevant laws, board policies, requirements of funding sources, and the mission of RMvlc.
- Oversees the finances and grant appointed funds of RMvlc, ensuring that RMvlc follows sound financial practices and meets the goals identified in its annual budget within the constraints imposed by funders.
- Oversees and is responsible for the success of all clinic goals and objectives as described in grants received.
Board Management
- Implements board policies.
- Keeps the board informed and consults with its members concerning the activities of the organization.
- Provides the board with all information necessary to fulfill its duties.
- Supports the Board of Directors and its efforts to increase resources and enhance organizational recognition and prestige.
Community Relations
- Serves as the primary spokesperson for the organization to the broader community.
- Develops and maintains positive and productive working relationships with other service organizations as well as political and civic leaders and individual members of the community.
- Is responsible for outreach efforts within the community with the goal of increasing relationships, referrals and collaborative efforts.
Fundraising
- Manages the fundraising activities of the organization.
- Develops and implements all policies and procedures relating to the fundraising tasks of the agency.
- Responsible for grant writing, reporting and management.
Staff Management
- Has responsibility for recruitment, retention, training and supervision of all staff and in-house volunteers.
- Maintains team-oriented work environment that supports and motivates staff and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Proven experience with all aspects of managing and growing a non-profit organization, including fundraising, budgeting, interfacing with the board of directors, marketing, employee management and program oversight.
· The ideal candidate will have the ability to handle difficult situations, a demonstrated commitment to advocacy for victims of violent crime, and the ability to provide leadership within a growing organization.
- Applicant must have demonstrated success as a fundraiser, including experience with fund development strategy
- Excellent grant writing and reporting skills
- Strong passion for social justice indicated by past jobs and experiences
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Management and supervisory competency and experience
- Dynamic, passionate leader with the ability to bring focus and inspiration to the staff, volunteers, and the Board
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to identify key advocacy issues in a wide variety of matters affecting crime victims.
- Interest in gauging and responding to changing legal needs of crime victims
- Experience working with multiple diverse community constituencies and demonstrated collaboration experience.
Salary will commensurate with experience. Range $51,000 – $75,000
